SK Energy has become the world-class company through continuing investment and efforts
poured into research and development. As part of these efforts, we have settled strategies
focusing on the centralization of domestic research competence at the SK Energy Institute of
Technology located in Daeduk Research Complex, while establishing localized R&D institutes
in USA and China as a globalization strategy.

 SK Energy Institute of Technology, situated in the Daeduk Research Complex, is the very heart
of the R&D of SK Energy. Under the wing of the SK Energy Institute of Technology are three
organizations including the Energy R&D Center, Chemicals R&D Center and the Corporate R&D
Center. The SK Energy Institute of Technology also comprises the New Technology Business
Development Team and the R&D Planning & Strategy Team which handles R&D strategic
planning and the operation of the SK Energy Institute of Technology.

 The Energy R&D Center is in charge of offering technical service for energy business areas
including petroleum, lubricants and special products as well as the development of new
products and new technology. The Chemicals R&D Center is in charge of offering technical
service to chemical businesses including Olefin, Aromatic, Polymer and Performance Chemical
Business as well as the development of high value-added new products.

 The Corporate R&D Center handles research and development in promising fields of the
future for continuing growth of the company. Based on our core competence, we focus on
the development of new catalysts and IT materials, healthcare chemicals, new and renewable
energy and research in the environmental sector. Research is also being expanded into the
field of life sciences.

 Under the strategy of applying the state-of-the-art technology of advanced nations as well as
conducting research into the specific features of research centers in advanced nations, the
New Jersey R&D Center was established in 1989.
It comprises the Bio-Pharmaceuticals Research Center and Customs Manufacturing Service
Division which are respectively developing new drugs for the central nerve system and high
value-added pharmaceutical intermediates.

 The Shanghai Institute of Technology was established in Shanghai, China to serve as multiple
research sources for effective R&D in bio-pharmaceutical areas. The Shanghai Institute of
Technology is pushing head with the development of oriental medicine-based natural drugs.
It is engaged in cooperative research for the development of new drugs with the
pharmaceutical research centers in Korea and the US.
